The press conference for the ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships, scheduled from 20 to 24 August 2025, was held yesterday, June 10, at the Allianz Tower in Milan’s CityLife district. The event will take place at the historic Idroscalo basin, ninety years after the first rowing competition hosted on the Milanese lake.
This is one of the most important events in the international sports calendar, with 60 participating nations, over 1,500 athletes, and 36 world titles up for grabs — 24 in sprint and 12 in paracanoe. Luciano Buonfiglio, President of the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation (FICK), emphasized how teamwork, institutional support, and early planning made it possible to organize an event of this scale, with a budget exceeding 2.5 million euros.
The environmental aspect is especially significant: Milan 2025 will be the first “green” World Championships in the history of international canoeing, thanks to a protocol developed by FICK together with the ICF, the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, and five foreign federations. Concrete measures include the elimination of single-use plastic, extensive recycling, and the promotion of sustainable mobility.
Among the partners present was Mokavit Srl, a historic company based in Ornavasso (VB), in the heart of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area, which unveiled the “Worlds Moka” — an exclusive creation made for the occasion and to be gifted to all medal-winning athletes.
